Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Secure Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

The record winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
