The speculation about the recent awards show has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing suggests that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, player agency, and flexible progression—qualities that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously flexible, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be completed in multiple ways, sometimes in lateral fashion.
- You might progress the story because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
